Targeted, structured literacy support for children and adolescents experiencing significant difficulties with reading, spelling and written expression.
This program is designed for students who require more intensive, individualised support to build strong literacy foundations and confidence over time.
Playberry Multisensory Tier 3 Literacy Program
Recognised training: Teaching Students with Dyslexia (TSD)
Is this right for your child?
You might be noticing your child or adolescent:
is finding reading, spelling or writing very difficult
is below expected level despite support
has been identified with (or is suspected to have) dyslexia
feels overwhelmed by literacy tasks or avoids them altogether
needs clear, structured and step-by-step teaching
What is the Playberry Program?
The Playberry Multisensory Tier 3 Literacy Program is a structured, evidence-based approach designed for students with more significant literacy difficulties.
It uses a multisensory approach, meaning children learn through seeing, hearing and doing — supporting stronger understanding over time.
The program was developed by Alison Playford and Bill Hansberry as a Tier 3 intervention for students with dyslexia and other literacy difficulties.
How This Program Supports Learning
Sessions focus on building the key skills needed for literacy development, including:
sound–letter relationships
reading and decoding
spelling and written expression
sentence structure and writing
organisation and planning for written tasks
Learning is structured, sequential and tailored to each individual.
Why Choose a Speech Pathologist for Literacy Support?
At Easy Speech Pathology, literacy support is delivered by qualified speech pathologists trained in structured, evidence-based approaches to reading, spelling and written language.
We have a strong understanding of how language underpins literacy development, including phonological awareness, sound–letter relationships and written expression. This allows us to support the underlying skills needed for long-term progress — not just surface-level difficulties.
We are trained in the Playberry Multisensory Tier 3 Literacy Program — a highly structured, systematic and explicit approach designed for students with more significant literacy needs.
Our Approach
The Playberry program is a structured and intensive intervention, typically delivered through weekly sessions (around 55–60 minutes), with home practice supporting progress between sessions.
Each session follows a clear and predictable structure, including revision, targeted reading and spelling activities, and the introduction of new concepts when appropriate. Sessions are broken into smaller, varied components to support attention, engagement and learning.
The program is highly individualised, with each child progressing at a pace that is right for them. New concepts are introduced only when previous learning has been consolidated, ensuring strong foundations are built over time.
We work closely with families and schools to ensure strategies carry over into everyday learning environments.
