Speech Pathology & Literacy Support

We provide individualised speech pathology and literacy support for children and adolescents, including speech, language, social communication and dyslexia support.

How We Support Your Child

We provide support across speech, language, social communication and literacy, with therapy tailored to each child’s individual strengths, needs and goals.

  • We support children to develop clear and confident speech, so they can be easily understood by others.

    This includes:

    Phonological difficulties (phonological disorder)
When a child uses patterns of errors in their speech (e.g. saying “tat” for “cat” or “poon” for “spoon”), making their speech harder to understand.

    Articulation difficulties (speech sound errors)
When a child has difficulty producing specific sounds correctly (e.g. a lisp when producing “s” or “z” sounds, or difficulty with sounds like “r”, “l” or “th”).

    Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS)
A motor speech difficulty where the brain has trouble planning and coordinating the movements needed for speech, which can result in inconsistent speech and difficulty producing sounds clearly.

Therapy is tailored to your child’s individual needs, using evidence-based approaches to support accurate sound production, clarity and confidence.

'We will guide you through understanding your child’s speech profile and the most appropriate therapy approach.

  • We support children to develop strong language skills so they can understand others and express their ideas clearly.

    This includes:

    Understanding language (receptive language)
When a child finds it difficult to follow instructions, understand questions, or make sense of what others are saying.

    Expressing language (expressive language)
When a child has difficulty putting their thoughts into words, using clear sentences, or finding the right words to say.

Therapy focuses on building vocabulary, sentence structure and confidence so children can communicate effectively across home and school.

  • We support children to develop the social communication skills needed to connect with others and navigate everyday interactions.

    This includes:

    • Taking turns in conversation

    • Staying on topic

    • Understanding social cues (e.g. body language and tone of voice)

    • Interpreting others’ perspectives

    • Building and maintaining friendships

We also support children to develop more flexible thinking (often described as flexible vs stuck thinking), helping them adapt to changes, manage challenges, and respond more successfully in social situations.

Therapy draws on evidence-based programs and structured approaches, supporting children to build confidence and develop skills they can use across school, home and everyday life.

We regularly work with autistic and ADHD young people and other neurodivergent profiles, using a strengths-based and neuro-affirming approach.

  • We support children to develop strong literacy skills, including reading, spelling and writing, so they can feel confident and successful at school.

    This includes:

    Phonological awareness
Understanding and working with sounds in words (e.g. rhyming, segmenting and blending), which is a key foundation for reading and spelling.

    Sound–letter relationships (phonics)
Learning how sounds connect to letters and letter patterns, helping children to decode (read) and encode (spell) words.

    Reading comprehension and inferencing
Understanding what they read, making connections, and reading between the lines to interpret meaning.

    Written expression
Developing skills in sentence structure, grammar and vocabulary to express ideas clearly in writing.

    Understanding writing genres
Learning how to structure different types of writing (e.g. narratives, persuasive and information texts).

    Planning and organisation
Supporting children to organise their ideas, plan their writing, and approach tasks with greater independence and confidence.

For children with more significant literacy difficulties, including dyslexia, we offer structured, evidence-based intervention using the Playberry Multisensory Literacy Program (Tier 3).

How it Works

Initial Assessment or Consultation

We begin by understanding your child’s strengths, needs and goals through initial consultation or assessment. This helps us gain a clear picture of their communication and learning profile.

Individualised Therapy Plan

Based on this, we develop a tailored therapy plan to support your child’ or adolescents development across speech, language, social communication or literacy.

Ongoing Support & Collaboration

Therapy is supported through regular sessions, with a strong focus on collaboration with families, schools and other professionals to support progress across everyday settings.

Therapy Options

We offer a range of different therapy options:

30 minute (Focus Therapy)

45 minute (Multiple Therapy Goals)

Funding

We offer a range of funding options to support access to therapy. If you’re unsure what applies to your family, we are always happy to help guide you.

  • We support children and adolescents who are self-managed or plan-managed through the NDIS.

Our services fall under Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living, and we work closely with families to support communication, social participation and learning outcomes.

    Please note:

    • We do not currently accept NDIA-managed (agency-managed) plans

    • Sessions are invoiced after each appointment

    • For plan-managed clients, invoices can be sent directly to your plan manager

    • For self-managed clients, invoices are paid by families and then claimed through the NDIS portal

If you’re unsure how your plan is managed or how to get started, we’re always happy to guide you through this.

  • Some children may be eligible for Medicare rebates for speech pathology services under a GP referral.

To access this, you will need to visit your GP and request a referral under the relevant Medicare item code (often referred to as a Chronic Condition Management plan). This allows access to a limited number of rebated allied health sessions per calendar year (between 5-20)

A newer Medicare initiative has recently expanded access for some children with speech and language delays, allowing for additional rebated sessions in certain cases. As this is still relatively new, not all GPs may be familiar with the details, so it can be helpful to mention this when booking your appointment.

    Please note:

    • Medicare rebates are processed by families after payment (we do not bulk bill)

    • We will provide you with an invoice to submit to Medicare for your rebate

    • The rebate amount is set by Medicare and does not cover the full session fee

If you’re unsure whether your child may be eligible, we recommend speaking with your GP — and we’re always happy to guide you through the process if needed.

  • If you have private health insurance with extras cover, you may be eligible to claim a rebate for speech pathology services.

Speech pathology is typically claimed under item code 10970, however this can vary slightly between providers, so we recommend checking directly with your health fund to confirm your level of cover and rebate amount.

    Please note:

    • Payment is required on the day of your session

    • We will provide you with an invoice to submit to your health fund

    • Rebates are processed directly between you and your insurer

As coverage and rebate amounts vary between funds and policies, it’s helpful to check what your individual plan includes prior to your first session.

  • We welcome private paying families and aim to make the process as simple and flexible as possible.

Payment is required on the day of your session, with the following options available:

    • Credit or debit card

    • Direct debit

You will receive an invoice after each session for your records.

If you have private health insurance, you may be able to claim a rebate depending on your level of cover (see Private Health Insurance above).

If you have any questions about fees, payment options, or getting started, we’re always happy to help.
